Important Update: Decertification Application Filed at Amazon YVR2

This afternoon we were notified by the British Columbia Labour Relations Board that an application has been filed to decertify Unifor Local 114 at the Amazon YVR2 Fulfillment Centre.

We understand that this news may be concerning.

Over the past several days, many employees have contacted us to say they felt pressured, intimidated, or did not fully understand what they were signing when they were asked to complete a Form 33A seeking to decertify the union. Others have simply changed their minds after learning more about what decertification means.

If you were one of those workers, thank you for coming forward.

The filing of a decertification application does not mean the union has been decertified.

The Board will now conduct its normal investigation by reviewing the evidence submitted in support of the application and comparing it with the revocations received. The Board must determine whether at least 45% of employees in the bargaining unit currently support and whether this application has the merits to be considered

Without the union Amazon has all the Power

Unifor believes that decertifying the union at this stage serves Amazon's interests, not the interests of the workers who organized together, stood up to one of the world's largest employers, and fought hard to win union representation and the legal right to bargain a first collective agreement. Walking away now would mean giving up the opportunity to negotiate improvements to wages, benefits, scheduling, job security, health and safety, and other workplace rights through collective bargaining.

Your first collective agreement, one of the first in the world, is steps away. Amazon knows this and is very scared. We encourage to stay the course and make history by improving the working conditions at YVR2 and leading positive change for Amazon workers globally.
