Amazon Offers Prime Membership — Your Union Is Winning at the Table
Dear Unifor members at YVR2,
We have a quick update from the bargaining table.
Amazon has applied to the B.C. Labour Relations Board for permission to extend free Amazon Prime memberships to YVR2 workers. Because contract negotiations are underway, changes to your working conditions must be approved through the Labour Board—the company cannot simply hand out new benefits on its own.
Unifor is agreeing to this application. Free Prime memberships are good for workers, and we are not going to stand in the way of something that benefits you.
But let's be clear: this is not Amazon generosity. This is a company feeling the pressure of a union at the bargaining table. Amazon has fought your union at every turn—and now they are looking for ways to win favour. The difference now is that a union is here, and the company knows it must deal with your bargaining committee.
Your bargaining committee is pushing for more
Your bargaining committee has tabled a proposal that goes further: we are seeking an additional wage increase and free Prime membership as a permanent benefit locked into your collective agreement (the written contract between the union and the employer). A benefit that comes through a collective agreement cannot be taken away on a whim—it belongs to you.
Damages for the fall 2025 wage freeze
As a reminder, the B.C. Labour Relations Board ruled that Amazon illegally withheld your September 2025 wage increase. You will receive that wage increase retroactively. Unifor has also filed for damages—a financial award beyond the wage increase—in recognition of the harm Amazon caused. We expect a ruling in the coming weeks.
